Chemistry Department - Foyle College
Chemistry begins in the stars. The stars are the source of the chemical elements, which are the building blocks of matter and the core of our subject.

Welcome to the Chemistry Department

Key Stage 3 (Years 8–10)

  • Core Topics: Particle theory, elements, compounds and mixtures, chemical reactions, simple quantitative ideas.
  • Strong emphasis on safe laboratory practice, enquiry skills and using evidence.

Note: Chemistry is taught within Science at KS3; separate GCSE options begin in Year 11.
