More than just a timetable

At Foyle College, we believe in developing the whole pupil. That’s why we offer a rich and varied extra-curricular programme to complement academic life. Through sport, music, drama, public speaking and outdoor education, pupils gain confidence, discover talents and build lifelong friendships.

Whether performing on stage, training on the pitch or debating at a podium, there’s a space for everyone to shine.

Activities confirmed at Foyle College

the following extra-curricular activities are offered:

 Performing Arts

  • Drama Club – particularly popular at KS3

  • Whole-School Productions – staged every two years

  • Choir – Junior and Senior ensembles

  • Orchestra – open to instrumentalists across year groups

  • Jazz Band – available to advanced players

  • Prize Day & Carol Service Performances – annual formal events showcasing pupil talent

 Public Speaking & Student Voice

  • Public Speaking & Debating Teams – with local and national competition success

  • School Super Council – representative pupil voice body

  • House System – with inter-house competitions and leadership opportunities

  • Mentoring Roles – available for senior pupils supporting younger students

 Sport & Physical Activity

  • Team Sports – Rugby, Hockey, Football, Netball, Tennis, Cricket

  • Athletics & Cross Country – school teams and local competitions

  • Swimming – recreational and competitive opportunities

  • Pilates – offered as part of well-being activities

  • Daily Games lessons – for all year groups, separate from PE

  • Inter-school fixtures – across a wide range of sports

  • Tours – regular domestic and international tours for major teams (e.g. South Africa, France, Scotland)

 Outdoor & Leadership Opportunities

  • Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

    • Bronze (Year 10), Silver (Year 11), Gold (Sixth Form)

    • One of the largest and most successful centres in Northern Ireland

  • Combined Cadet Force (CCF)

    • Army and RAF sections

    • Weekly parade and fieldcraft training

    • Open to pupils from Year 10 upwards

    • Focus on leadership, discipline, service and adventure

 When & where do clubs take place?

Most clubs and practices take place:

  • Lunchtime or 3:30–4:30pm after school

  • Rehearsals, matches and competitions may also occur during weekends or evenings

To help with participation, free late buses run Monday to Thursday at 4:30pm, covering key residential areas.

 Finding your place

Each term, pupils receive a list of current activities via form tutors. Clubs may vary slightly from year to year depending on pupil interest and staffing — but the commitment to offering breadth, quality and opportunity remains constant.

A note to parents

We know that extra-curricular life plays a big role in wellbeing and personal development. Pupils are encouraged to balance commitments sensibly, and parents are always welcome to discuss options with pastoral or subject staff.
