At Key Stage 4, pupils enter an exciting new stage of their Foyle journey — one where learning becomes more focused, tailored and aligned with individual interests and ambitions. Across Years 11 and 12, students study for GCSEs and equivalent qualifications, building knowledge, independence and confidence as they prepare for life after school.

100% of pupils achieved seven or more A*-C grades at GCSE, including English and Mathematics.
The majority of our pupils progress into our Sixth Form or continue education through further study, apprenticeships or vocational training.
Core Curriculum (Compulsory Subjects)

Pupils choose up to four option subjects, guided by their interests, strengths and future plans. These courses are offered at GCSE or Level 2 equivalent standard.

Support with subject choices
Choosing GCSE subjects is a major decision. We guide pupils and families through a structured decision-making process, including:
- Information Evenings and subject guides
- Taster lessons and talks from subject departments
- One-to-one careers interviews
- Involvement of parents, tutors and Heads of Year in final decisions

Teaching, Assessment & Feedback
Across KS4, pupils are taught by subject specialists who bring curriculum knowledge and real passion for their fields. Regular formal and informal assessments ensure that progress is measured and communicated clearly.

Foyle College offers a wide range of Guidance on your journey through KS4.

Life at KS4 — Beyond the Classroom
We encourage all Key Stage 4 pupils to remain fully engaged in school life. Enrichment and leadership opportunities include:

Preparing for the future
As pupils complete Year 12, we support each individual in planning their next steps — whether that's continuing into Foyle's Sixth Form, applying for further education, or pursuing other pathways.
