Subject Choice & Curriculum Structure
Sixth Form students typically select three or four subjects, depending on prior attainment and intended destinations. These courses run over two years and are assessed through final exams and/or controlled assessments.

Foyle College Sixth Form is known for its academic rigour and results that open doors.
80% of Year 14 pupils (2024) achieved three or more A-C grades
100 % of students achieved at least two A-E grades
Many students progress to Russell Group universities, teacher training, STEM degrees, healthcare courses, creative arts, and more
Ongoing assessment, teacher feedback and mock exams are used to track progress and provide targeted support throughout both years.
Pastoral Care & Wellbeing
Every Sixth Former is assigned a Form Tutor and is supported by the Head of Sixth Form and Head of Year. The pastoral team is there to guide students through academic, social and emotional challenges — from settling into Year 13 to completing final university applications.

Careers, UCAS & Life Beyond School
Career planning is embedded throughout KS5, with a focus on next steps after Foyle. Whether a student is heading to university, a higher-level apprenticeship or the workplace, we offer tailored advice and practical preparation.

The Sixth Form Experience
Life in Sixth Form is about more than just studying. We encourage every student to get involved, take ownership, and be a role model for younger pupils.
Opportunities include:
- House Captain, Prefect and Super Council roles
- Peer mentoring and reading support for KS3 pupils
- Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award
- Drama productions, music ensembles and public speaking
- CCF leadership roles (Army & RAF sections)
- Volunteering and charity events
- Enrichment sessions in study skills, finance and wellbeing
Sixth Form Centre
Students benefit from a dedicated Sixth Form Centre that includes:
- Private study rooms and breakout areas

- Access to careers resources and UCAS support
Entry Requirements & Application Process
Entry into Sixth Form is based on GCSE performance and subject-specific requirements. Prospective students (including external applicants) are invited to our Sixth Form Open Evening held in January, where subject teachers and current students are on hand to advise.
